Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams Ballon d'Or Yashin award nomination did not make it to the top 5 of the last goalkeepers.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez won the prestigious award defeating Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin, Paris Saint-Germain's Gainluigi Donnarumma, Athletic Bilbao's Unai Simon and AC Milan's Mike Maignan.

Williams had a better season having won the Betway Premier League, African Football League, AFCON bronze medal, PSL golden glove and PSL player of the season.

Regardless of the loss in the Ballon d'Or, Williams made history as he became the first African player to be nominated for the Yashin award.
