FC Barcelona have now fully resolved the deferred salary payments owed to the entire 2020 squad. In the year 2020, The entire world was hit by the Corona-Virus (Covid-19) and saw a lot of industries being paused and being forced to shut down for months after the desease had millions of people on choke hold.
With people being forced to be indoors during those times, Football was also forced to be halted which resulted in leagues being suspended for months as the world was trying to battle the virus. Some industries (Football included)failed to make money as they were not functional.
During the Covid period, Barcelona faced financial issues like most businesses but theirs were worse to a point whereby they had to unintentionally release their star player at the time Lionel Messi and several key players. Players who were earning high salaries at Barcelona were forced to be released by the club but the Spanish side couldn't settle the money left on their contracts.
So since the year 2020, Barca has been paying the money they OWED their former players. Lionel Messi was the player owed the highest amount, with €47.6M of his salary deferred. Only €5.96M remains outstanding, which will be paid the in the coming days.
